It’s time to stand up for our emergency workers, brought to their knees by political correctness. Time Party proposes that common assault and/or battery on any emergency worker, carries a MINIMUM not maximum tariff of 24 months in prison.
There is a crisis on the streets
Police officers are attacked with almost zero consequence, even paramedics seeking to render aid abused & attacked, and prison officers facing daily abuse & attacks. Just 2 examples :

In a consultation that starts today, Priti Patel will recommend increasing the jail term for those who attack emergency workers to a maximum of 2 years.
Writing for The Mail, she states that, ‘It is essential that in these horrific cases, a just punishment is handed down’.
Her proposals however, I suggest, are neither just nor indeed a real punishment and certainly not a deterrent. The almost laughable ‘early release scheme’ which has no bearing on ‘good behaviour’ will see to that.
So why not mandatory or at least minimum sentencing?
You’d expect that from a party that touts itself as strong on law and order right?
The reality is that between January and December 2019, there were 30,135 assaults on Police Officers and in the year to September 2019, more than 10,000 assaults on Prison Officers.
It doesn’t take a genius to work out that there’s no space to enforce this sentencing in our overcrowded prisons without a wider discussion on prison reform which the Conservatives seem reluctant to have.
I’ll give Priti her due, there was scant regard for the plight of emergency workers until she was handed the baton. Sadly it was the same one Theresa May had used during her tenure as Home Secretary to batter the living daylights out of them.
This tough rhetoric and lack of action no longer washes with a force, stripped of experience and numbers and now totally demoralised by a lack of support from senior officers in their seeming relentless appeasement of thuggery and violence. They’ve become a laughing stock, they know it….and they hate it.
It’s time to stand up for our emergency workers.
